Hi I'm Pam and I like to talk about video games.
Video Game Collection 2024 - How much I sold (and for how much) | Cannot be Tamed
Last year I made a few videos about wanting to part with a significant part of my collection, and I got to selling things. Here's how that went, where I sold, what I sold and for how much. And what I still have left.

Today I'm reviewing the recent release, Tales of Kenzera: ZAU. Why I Want to Sell My Video Game Collection | Cannot be Tamed

Why I Want to Sell My Video Game Collection | Cannot be Tamed
Xbox disc sales are definitely up now that Microsoft announced closing the store. As well as going in the direction of all digital. I would imagine this is just going to keep going up in value over the years.
Wow, So Dragon Quest 8 is boring and you put it on the D list eh ? Always enjoyed your videos but this time I'm afraid I'm gonna have to hire a lawyer and sue you for defamation, sorry.
Unsighted is criminally underrated
I get so bored playing retro. I would sell too.
A retro collector actually went missing. He was in a wheelchair and his shelf of 32x games collasped burying him. After 2 weeks he was found by gaming tubers. Alive but very hungry.
I feel exactly the same way. I buy my games digital whenever possible. I saw how a friend of mines would buy more and more physical copies and it just doesn’t make sense to me anymore. Sure I’m missing out on certain old games but I have so many new digital games, I’m set for the next several years.
I started downsizing after being inspired by one of your first vids about selling some of your collection. Mainly I've been trading in a bunch of games to CEX (some valuable, a lot not but cumulatively added up) for games I actually want. Started doing it with books and other stuff too. It's honestly nice to actually just keep the stuff that means something to me and be able to actually declutter my space.
How do you determine the sell price?
I appreciate videos like this. I'm tired of channels that gatekeep and make it seem like you can't be a fan if you don't own physical media. I always talk about how Chrono Trigger / Earthbound / FF6 are some of my best memories from 1995/1996, but selling my OG copies in 2003 when I was fresh out of college and unemployed doesn't change my memories or affect my love for revisiting these games digitally over the years. If I regret anything, it was how much I sold them for then and what I could have gotten for them since.
It’s so interesting to see I’m not alone. I understand collecting and loving and having things, but I am in the minority of console gamers that is all for digital gaming. Officially living in a time where the amount of livable hours is less than the amount of gaming hours made it easier for me to have sold off my collection years ago. Oh, and the money. Bills are a hell of a motivator.
zen intergalactic ninja 👌. i sold it a few weeks ago for 170 or something. i'm also on the edge of seeling allot of my collection. but don't when the tax department will annoy me. on marketplace we got the warning to not sell more then 30 artikels a year and not more then 2k a year. don't know the fine things about it. but if your thinning out your collection it's easely grows way above 2k a year. i do understand them, but allot of this stuff we already payed taxes for. i'm in the same headspace currently. got allot of stuff just sitting on the shelf.
I've been collecting games since I was a baby teen, and I've got so much of an emotional attachment that I've been trying to break through. It's like... do I want a game I'll never play again, or do I want money for rent? Lol
Sorry to hear about Lily. Hopefully she gets to feeling better ❤️
So what changed? I’m not a huge collector myself. I just get physicals if I absolutely love the game. What’s something in your collection that you will never part with? Mine are not even that rare but I love them. It’s just a copy of the Bioshock collection for ps4 and my mint copy of Resident Evil 2 that I’ve had since I was a kid.
Crazy that years ago Zen could be picked up for £10 over here. I wish I’d picked up a load when I was a kid 😂
lol Monkey Island on sega CD. damn that brings back memories. I remember sitting thru those loading screens almost every new frame you walked into. Still have it in storage in my basement
I don’t like having too much stuff. Even though I like having physical copies of some of these retro games, if it gets to be overwhelming I usually cull the collection and sell what I’m done with.
I'm quite impressed that you got such a good return on all your old games. I'm the type that would put an ad in Craigslist that says, "200 classic PC & console games with original boxes! $400! Firm!" then be done with it. I guess game swap meets are the way to go.
If you dont mind shipping then contact a company called Found It! Electronics in Ft. Worth TX they are a retro and collectibles game story. I use them quite frequently.
I’m of the mindset now that if it doesn’t have memories attached to it, I’m going to sell it at some point. I’m definitely refining my collection. I’ve also sold off a ton before! Only thing I regret is my psp collection. I do miss it, and now the good games are pricey!
Crazy the difference of value between PAL and US games. I sold Legend of Dragoon for 140€ here in France. I also decided to get rid of everything except my DS (84), 3DS (79) and Switch (296) games earlier this year. People say they have no money. I made 14k € in 2 months.
Are you transgender
I clicked on the vid cause of the dog. What an awesome dog!
I agree!
I remember having such a collection of PS One and PS2 games..but ah...unless you're very very careful they don't last.
So basically you have no creativity...
I’d be interested in seeing a video detailing the games that you absolutely would never sell, games that you revisit at least once or twice a year.
I still have bunch left, but there is no game I would never sell.
Sold my nintendo “collection “ which was really just games i had as a kid. Was about 50 NES games, nothing very rare except a three screw commando and a “left Bros” mario 3. Also sold SNES which were mostly the FF and zelda games. Sold everyrhing on ebay for around $1200. Not bad considering everything was used but i think the peak time to sell was 5 or 10 years ago
That’s impressive you were able to keep such a Orderly Catalogue of games. Good job! Are we talking Canadian or American dollars here?
Canadian
neat
Congratulations! What did you use to determine the “market price“?
Oh and I hope Lilly feels better! I had a dog that became arthritic when she got older and I learned to give her Adequan injections at home. (The vet taught me how to do it, I didn’t just decide to do it myself!) It completely changed her life, she was like a different dog! If you can learn to give the injections yourself, you can save a boatload of money in vet bills! Good luck!
I used Price Charting and took off about 20%. Lily has started getting Librela injections, which seems to be helping. Though I honestly threw a bunch of solutions in at once - Librela, join supplements, physical therapy. I'm not sure if it's one thing or the combination that's caused an improvement.
@@Cannotbetamed1 Thanks for the info. Wishing you and Lily the best of luck with her treatment!
Physical perverts. Yes. Mostly NES games and floppies (3.5/5.25). Physical game paraphilia.
9:26 Wow, that is the most legendarily picky conditionist thing I've ever heard! Personally I deliberately GO AFTER games with old video rental/retail stickers, especially blockbuster. Yellowing from tape residue can't be fixed but the residue/grime itself can generally be removed even with cardboard. I have never sold anything at a con/flea market yet, I usually go to ebay and turn best offer off.
One of my favorite games for sure. Love the back story, and imaginary charm. I love all of the Renovation games, and this game, while a bit strange at times, has that uniquely graceful aesthetic you’ll find in all of their games.
You were on the fence about selling Felix the Cat. I’m so happy you kept it! Did anyone ask you to sign a game they purchased?
Nope, no one did.
Digital games? Enjoy not owning your games.
I do
I'm a total google sheets nerd
whenever i pirate a game and feel guilty i pray that people like these get a pay increase to maintain balance. 🙏
I’m still big into collecting, but where I’m at in Ontario the pickings are becoming slim and some of the stuff is way overpriced. Seems many places are saving big hitters for eBay.
I sold mine years ago. After having a family, not having the space, and getting into more physical hobbies, it all just sat there. I don't regret it at all.
Civ 5, 156hrs = 4-5 played games. 🤣 Time flies with this game. I have a simliar time played this game and i barely remembered it playing. It was years ago. And because of its time sucking addictive nature i never played it again.
Quantum Break for $5 is a steal of a deal.
Give Lily Sierra Sil (Canadian Product). It works for pets too no joke! Of course research first.
I live adventurously vicariously through you Pam. You play everything while I stick with nostalgia and safety mostly. Godspeed. Game on!
Marry me Pam
Hey Pam thanks for your update of your video games collection. I hope your able to sell more soon. If I may just a sincere idea have you consider perhaps doing a video game fundraiser for Lily? I was just wondering. I hope Lily gets well soon. Thanks for your time as always and please take care.
I'd buy the Deadpool game just for the irony 🎮
Digital distribution honestly makes the most sense for video games, but - 1. I do not like the idea of losing access to my games if my account is ever banned. Account bans are not always done with good reason and can occur because of errors and the customer support for a lot of these services leaves a great deal to be desired. I can understand being banned from online multiplayer, but losing access to your games? 2. Licensing - I don't like the idea of paying for something that I can potentially lose access to because licensing changes down the line. 3. There's no bloody way digital games should cost exactly the same as the retail product sitting on a shelf. I'm not shelling out full price for something where I don't even have real ownership over my copy of the game. 4. I have absolutely no way of recouping any money on my purchase if I don't like the game or have no intention of purchasing it again. Even an option to relinquish my license for a $5 or $10 credit in an online store would go a long way toward warming me to digital. As it stands - I'll do digital but only under really good sales, and I'm more likely to buy on Steam than I am any other platform because that purchase will carry with me through hardware upgrades over decades. I may eventually need to put some work into making older games function on my newer hardware, but I have the ultimate in terms of backwards compatibility, even if a lot of the other concerns I brought up are still present in some form or another. More than anything, what the push toward digital games has done is turn me away from consoles. If there's no manuals or artbooks and the games aren't even 100% playable from the disc, I see absolutely no point in owning a PS5 over a gaming laptop with a 3050 in it. The sales are rarely as good through these proprietary platforms, and the games I buy are stuck within that ecosystem or on that specific device. If I'm going to buy digital and have no option to sell my games or get credits from games I won't play again, I at least want indefinite backwards compatibility.
I collect games as my only avenue of spending stupid funny money, I quit drinking 3 years ago and I dont want to think about the amount of money I was spending every month on alcohol for at home consumption and "going out." Which, realistically was to binge drink. So, the money I spent there goes towards videogames. I also have a 3 month old daughter now, and it will be a nice means to introduce her to videogames.. well, just as long as she doesn't touch any of it until she's old enough (kidding). She shares a name with your dog!
It's extremely refreshing to see people talk about letting go of the clutter rather than having aisles of games in the background (not that I'm trying to shame anybody, just that it's just... not my thing anymore)... I'm also trying to downgrade my collection.. A gigantic reason is the sort of... implied elitism I see collectors having now, as well as just the absurd market.
Spec ops the line is definitely worth more than 15$
